Surface risks, resolve bottlenecks, and drive continuous process improvement. - Shape platform and tooling strategy. Contribute to Roblox's next-generation labeling and evaluation platform strategy — including vendor pilots, internal platform improvements, and the transition to a hybrid human-AI collaborative workflow model. At a minimum, be able to use AI tools to generate queries. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills — able to write rigorous technical specifications and present complex data concepts to both ML researchers and business stakeholders. - Proven ability to drive cross-functional alignment and exercise strong judgment, knowing when to champion collaborative efforts versus leading independently. - Exceptional critical thinking skills with a demonstrated capacity to navigate ambiguity and execute effectively in 0-to-1 environments without structured guidance. - Solid grasp of software development life cycles and hands-on experience leveraging AI-assisted tools like Cursor, Claude, or Gemini to accelerate workflows. Nice to Have - Experience with LLM-based labeling pipelines, LLM-as-a-Judge evaluation, or human-AI calibration loops. - Familiarity with labeling platforms such as Label Studio, Scale AI, or Snorkel AI. - Experience evaluating 3D, games, videos, or multimodal data beyond standard text and image annotation. - Background in vendor platform evaluation or build vs. buy analysis. - Experience with data operations at a consumer platform operating at massive scale (100M+ users). - Knowledge of Roblox platform and its games, or general gaming experience. Senior Software Engineer - Orchestration
Every day, tens of millions of people come to Roblox to explore, create, play, learn, and connect with friends in 3D immersive digital experiences– all created by our global community of developers and creators. At Roblox, we’re building the tools and platform that empower our community to bring any experience that they can imagine to life. Our vision is to reimagine the way people come together, from anywhere in the world, and on any device. We’re on a mission to connect a billion people with optimism and civility, and looking for amazing talent to help us get there. A career at Roblox means you’ll be working to shape the future of human interaction, solving unique technical challenges at scale, and helping to create safer, more civil shared experiences for everyone. As a Senior Software Engineer on the Orchestration pod within Engine Productivity, you'll design and run the platform that executes large-scale end-to-end and integration tests, running the real, shipping client on real hardware, across Roblox's data centers, cloud, and our own device labs, so our engineering teams can ship the engine, clients, Studio, and more with speed and confidence. Every Roblox engine, client, and Studio change, along with the experiences built on top of them, should ship with confidence, and the Orchestration team is the layer that makes that possible. We build large-scale distributed services that turn thousands of test suites into a reliable, push-button pipeline: fanning work out across fleets of machines and real devices, moving artifacts to where they're needed, managing single- and multi-client test state, and giving test owners and maintainers a system to validate their own runs. It looks a lot like building a specialized cloud platform, with capacity-aware scheduling, isolation and sandboxing, and smart retry and backoff, plus the classic distributed systems problems (fairness, efficiency, failure handling, and reliability) at Roblox scale. You Will: - Design and build the distributed services at the heart of our test platform: schedulers, control-plane components, and APIs that fan end-to-end and integration test work across fleets of machines and real devices. - Run the real, retail-configuration client on physical hardware at scale, coordinating single- and multi-client test state, join flows, and gameplay scenarios. - Build capacity-aware scheduling, isolation/sandboxing, and smart retry and backoff to run tests reliably and efficiently. - Build systems that track the health of our hardware and cloud fleet and automatically detect and recover from failures with minimal human intervention. - Develop the pieces that move artifacts, manage client state, and let test owners validate their own runs, including the launcher that drives the game client. - Help evolve our legacy automation harnesses and point solutions into a cohesive Universal Test Platform, defining the core APIs other Client teams build on. - Take projects from design through production, and support the many engineering teams (engine, clients, Studio, and beyond) that grow to depend on the platform. You Have: - Strong experience building distributed systems or backend services such as schedulers, control planes, orchestration, or similar large-scale infrastructure. - Proficiency in Go and/or Python (we work mostly in Go and Python, with some Luau for test and integration tooling). - A solid grasp of distributed systems fundamentals: fairness, efficiency, failure handling, and reliability. - Experience building systems that stay healthy on their own: health monitoring, fault detection, and automated recovery. - Familiarity with running workloads on physical test hardware (phones, computers, consoles) is a strong plus; comfort getting hands-on with real devices. - Experience with end-to-end or integration testing of real applications, not just unit tests or standard CI pipelines, is a plus. - A passion for correctness and doing things "the right way." For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. You have: - 5+ years of relevant professional experience in privacy engineering, privacy program management, or a related security/compliance discipline. - Experience owning or significantly shaping a privacy review process, privacy governance function, or equivalent, including designing review workflows, managing stakeholder intake, and driving decisions to closure. - Deep expertise in privacy-enhancing technologies (PETs), such as differential privacy, homomorphic encryption, k-anonymity, federated learning, and secure multi-party computation; and sound judgment about their real-world trade-offs in production environments. - Experience identifying and mitigating privacy vulnerabilities in data systems, including identifiability risks such as inference, linkage, and homogeneity attacks, and other privacy risks more broadly. - Hands-on experience with policy-as-code tooling for automating compliance enforcement in engineering pipelines (e.g., OPA/Rego, Cedar, or similar policy engines). - Strong understanding of global data protection regulations, including GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, COPPA, and LGPD; and the technical implications of each for product and infrastructure design. - Demonstrated ability to drive alignment across engineering, legal, policy, and compliance stakeholders without direct management authority. - Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Information Security, or a similar technical field. You are: - A skilled translator: You articulate technical privacy trade-offs to legal and compliance audiences, and unpack regulatory requirements clearly for engineering teams. - Organized and process-oriented: You manage multiple concurrent program tracks with precision and accountability in a fast-moving environment. - Comfortable with ambiguity: You build structure and rigor where little exists, take ownership of outcomes, and know when to drive autonomously versus escalate. - Collaborative: You move work forward across teams you don't directly manage and build trust quickly with diverse stakeholders. - Genuinely invested in user privacy: You see it as a core product and platform value, not a compliance formality, and you make the case for it compellingly. For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Principal Security Software Engineer, IAM
As a Principal Security Software Engineer on the Production IAM team, you will set the technical direction for how identity and access work across Roblox's production infrastructure, from the mTLS-based identity that services use to authenticate to one another, to the privileged access controls that govern how engineers reach production. The team is accountable for Roblox's machine and workload identity platform, its centralized authorization engine, its production access management platform, production PKI and certificate lifecycle, and just-in-time privileged access for engineers. As an individual contributor in Production IAM, you will define multi-year strategy, drive alignment across Roblox Platform, mentor senior and staff engineers, and personally build the hardest parts of these systems. As AI agents become first-class actors in production, you will also help pioneer how they get identity, prove who they are, and receive safely-scoped access. You will - Lead the architecture for production identity and access. Define and evolve the end-to-end design for machine, workload, human, and AI-agent identity across our hybrid on-prem and cloud fleet, making secure access invisible when it can be and intuitive when it needs attention. - Drive mTLS and workload identity to full production enforcement. Lead the technical strategy for our SPIFFE/SPIRE-based identity platform, service-mesh integration, managed service accounts, and certificate issuance, storage, and rotation. - Advance just-in-time, least-privilege access for engineers. Architect just-in-time, least-privilege, and break-glass access to production, replacing static, long-lived credentials with short-lived, auditable access that stays reliable even during dependency or identity-provider outages. - Evolve the centralized authorization engine and a secure golden path. Mature our centralized authorization engine and the access-control models behind it (RBAC/ABAC and risk-based access) so decisions are consistent, fine-grained, and testable. - Pioneer identity and access for AI agents. Define how agents obtain credentials, receive scoped permissions, and have their sessions managed across their lifecycle, setting the patterns for agentic identity at Roblox.. - Lead across the org and raise the bar. Author RFCs and multi-year roadmaps, align stakeholders across Roblox Platform, mentor senior and staff engineers, and raise the technical bar through design review, on-call ownership, and hiring. You have - 8+ years of relevant professional experience building scalable, distributed backend systems, with a track record of driving architecture end to end. - Deep expertise in identity and access management — authentication, authorization, and access-control models such as RBAC, ABAC, or risk-based access control. - Hands-on experience with several of: PKI and certificate/key lifecycle management, mTLS, SPIFFE/SPIRE or comparable workload-identity systems, service mesh, secret management (e.g., Vault), and privileged access management (PAM). - Proficiency in at least one systems language such as Go, Rust, Java, C++, Python, or C# .NET, and a habit of building systems rather than only configuring vendor tools. - Experience leading the technical work of other engineers — setting direction across teams, writing influential design docs, and mentoring senior talent. - AI fluency: you use AI tools in your daily workflow, understand LLM capabilities and limitations, and can reason about what it means to give an AI agent an identity and permissions. - A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a similar technical field. You are - A systems thinker. You reason about failure modes, blast radius, and reliability, and you design access that stays secure and available even when dependencies fail. - Security-minded and pragmatic. You are passionate about least privilege and zero trust, but you optimize for the Builder experience and adoption, not controls for their own sake. - A force multiplier. You make the engineers and teams around you better through mentorship, clear writing, and high-quality technical leadership. - A strong communicator. You translate deep technical tradeoffs for both engineers and executives, and you build alignment across organizational boundaries. - Bar-raising and hands-on. You still love to build, and you set the standard for engineering quality on the hardest problems. For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. You can explain a nuanced technical failure to an engineer, to a frustrated user, and to leadership, and all three come away clearer. - Strong cross-functional influence without authority. - Comfort with ambiguity. You set direction for your team when the problem space is not yet well defined. - Willingness to participate in on-call support when needed. You Are - A Leader: Your team does better work because of you, and that shows up in their output and their growth. - Analytical: Excited to investigate large, ambiguous problems, and to measure both the problems and the solutions. - A proactive problem solver: You anticipate problems and take decisive action rather than waiting for them to escalate to you. - Team-oriented: You lift up your peers and find ways to make the wider organization stronger, not just your own team. - Data-driven: You use data to identify trends, measure results, and drive decisions. You Will - Lead, grow, and develop a team of software engineers building the in-game text chat platform, setting a high bar for engineering excellence, ownership, and career growth. - Own the technical vision and multi-quarter roadmap for real-time text messaging, balancing new product capabilities against scale, latency, reliability, and cost. - Drive the architecture and evolution of messaging systems that reliably deliver billions of messages per day at low latency to a global, cross-platform audience. - Partner with product and design to shape a compelling communication experience — treating chat as a product, not just infrastructure — and translate ambiguous goals into concrete plans and shipped features. - Collaborate closely with Trust & Safety, Policy, and ML teams to ensure every messaging experience is safe and civil by design for a young, global user base. - Establish strong engineering practices around quality, observability, on-call health, and operational excellence for systems that must always be available. - Communicate clearly and influence across the organization — with peers, leadership, and cross-functional partners — to align teams behind a shared direction. You Have - 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years managing and growing engineering teams. - A track record of building and shipping consumer-facing products at scale — ideally messaging, communications, social, or other real-time systems. - Strong product intuition: you make thoughtful tradeoffs between user experience, technical complexity, and speed, and you care about what you ship, not just how it's built. - Deep experience designing and operating large-scale distributed systems, with a strong grasp of reliability, latency, and the realities of running high-throughput services in production. - Demonstrated ability to attract, develop, and retain strong engineers, and to build healthy, high-performing teams. - Excellent communication and cross-functional leadership skills, with a history of driving alignment across product, design, and engineering. - A bias toward action and a comfort with ambiguity, especially at high scale. You Might Also Have - Experience with real-time messaging protocols, presence systems, or high-fanout delivery infrastructure. - Background in trust & safety, content moderation, or safety-critical systems. - Experience building communication or social features for large, global, or youth audiences. - Familiarity with cross-platform (mobile, console, desktop) product development. Senior Engineering Manager, AI Roblox Studio
Roblox's engineering team is expanding rapidly, and we're looking for a seasoned engineering leader to help us scale our AI-powered creation platform and team. As a Senior Engineering Manager within the Creator Group, you will lead the Studio Assistant team — driving the strategy and execution of our agentic AI system that powers creation for millions of Roblox creators. Your team owns everything end-end from the user experience in Studio, to the infrastructure underneath backend by a single cloud-native architecture: one harness, one tool set, one eval framework. Your work will empower millions of creators to plan, generate, and ship content faster than ever before. At Roblox we move fast and ship code to production daily; your leadership will increase productivity by removing obstacles and keeping processes lean. You will identify and mitigate risk and make sure the technology outpaces our growth. Roblox teams are inclusive, helpful, and have a strong sense of ownership over the things they build. If you have a desire to grow and learn, you will fit right in with our highly-skilled and ever-expanding engineering team. You Are: - Battle ready: You have experience defining architecture for AI systems at scale and are excited about the challenges of shipping agentic workflows to millions of creators. You can be hands-on and still define an architecture from scratch — model orchestration, tool execution, evaluation pipelines — and make sure it scales from early adopters to millions of users - Versatile: You're comfortable across the full stack of an AI-powered product: cloud orchestration, LLM integration and model routing, skill/tool execution, and creator-facing client experiences. You can easily adapt to any situation when the need arises and come up with the right solution. - Knowledgeable: You have a deep understanding of AI infrastructure — model serving, reliability, observability, and multi-step execution loops including planning, tool use, and recovery. You can evaluate tradeoffs, recommend pragmatic solutions, and bring a team of engineers to consensus. You also love to pick up new technologies as the AI landscape evolves rapidly. You Have: - Experience: 10+ years of experience in large-scale software deployments with a proven track record of leading large teams (15+) and delivering highly performant technical solutions. Experience building or leading teams that ship AI/ML-powered products in production. BS in Computer Science; MS/PhD are a definite plus. - AI systems depth: Experience with agentic systems, LLM orchestration, evaluation frameworks, and the operational challenges of shipping AI features reliably at scale. - Strategic vision: You can identify high-impact opportunities, shape them into a roadmap, and get buy-in from leadership and partner teams to make them happen. You think beyond the immediate ask to find the right long-term opportunities for growth. - Building partnerships: You have a track record of working across organizational boundaries — aligning with partner teams on shared goals, navigating competing priorities, and driving joint execution on complex cross-team initiatives. - Team-orientation: You have a personality that invigorates the team around you and you are used to leading and growing technical teams in any situation. You Will: - Grow our organization by attracting and retaining the best talent in AI engineering and applied ML. - Own the technical strategy for our agentic AI stack — balancing speed, reliability, and creator experience. - Balance researching emerging AI capabilities with a practical approach to shipping them into the Roblox product. - Lead other engineers by example, through technical direction, and by authoring specs for new features and architectural improvements. - Put the Roblox creator community first and represent the company through thought leadership. You'll Love: - Excellent medical, dental, and vision coverage - A rewarding 401k program - Flexible vacation policy - Free catered lunches and several fully stocked kitchens with unlimited snacks - Onsite fitness center and fitness program credit - Annual CalTrain Go Pass - A Roblox Admin badge for your avatar For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below.
